Ideas for Moving Yourself – Insurance

Many people need to move themselves instead of hiring a professional moving company due to the cost of professional movers. But when you go it alone, you’re foregoing quite a few advantages and benefits that come with a professional company. One important benefit you’re giving up is insurance.

Choose your moving helpers wisely and carefully. Be sure that they handle your belongings with care. And make sure they take care of themselves. Someone could get hurt. A piece of furniture could fall on someone, or someone could fall off the truck. Your helpers could hurt their knees, ankles, or backs, or pull muscles.

You may want to check with your insurance agent to make sure you have coverage in case one of your helpers gets hurt. Check on coverage for broken belongings as well. Find out what your homeowners’ insurance will cover during your move.

The cost of your moving truck rental will include insurance on the vehicle, but not on the contents. Look into possibly purchasing extra insurance if you think your belongings may be at risk during the move.

And if you decide to hire a professional moving company, call Heritage Moving & Storage, Inc. We are proud to serve Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Smith Mountain Lake, Blacksburg, Botetourt County, and all of Southwest Virginia.
